Just Getting Started

on 12-10-2017

These guys were trying to do something that never happened. All of the A list actors were just walking thru their scenes. This is true schlock of a movie. A waste of perfect good time. EXPEKT -O – METER Before 7.5 – After 3 > >...

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

on 11-27-2017

This is a wild and crazy screenplay that somehow made it to the screen. A bit of a miracle in itself. Where to start? See it, for one. It is wacky, crude, funny, unpredictable and has a lot of laugh lines. I mean belly laughs if you are twisted enough. Now you better know who I am. It has a great cast: Woody Harrolson, Francis Mcdormod, Sam Rockwell (one of my favorite bad guys)...

Lady Bird

This is a quite quirky, coming of age story. It is told from the main characters point of view and narrated by her at times. It has a lot of humor in it, some innocence and a lot of teenage angst. It is a very viewable movie. It truly grew on me in an emotionally endearing way. The dad is a big teddy bear and the mom the combative one wanting the best for...

Daddy’s Home 2

on 11-10-2017

I was surprised how much I laughed during this movie. I was entertained. The writing and acting was more natural and less pratfallish than these usually come across. There is plenty of beef cake, gals with Mark Wahlberg and Mel Gibson playing father and son rolls. It is a goofy improbable story but there is a story and some cute scenes. EXPEKT – O – METER Before – 7 – After 7.5 > >...

Logan Lucky

on 8-29-2017

This is a romp of a movie. It is slow paced. It is shot and acted like a “B” movie. The wrap up of this story is BRILLIANT and well worth the tedium of many of the scenes. I kept asking myself: where is this all going? Maybe that was the plan of the crew. It works very well in a glance over the shoulder. :o) EXPEKT – O – METER Before 9 –...

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2

on 5-06-2017

This one is kind of a yawn, kind of fun but… It was as if they threw everything on the screen and I’m my humble opinion a lot of it belongs on the cutting room floor. Gripping about 20 minutes off of it might have made a far more viewable movie. The cast was great, and the acting very good. I could have had a lot less personal story lines that seemed to be...

Office Christmas Party

on 1-01-2017

This was better that I thought it might be. Confess, I saw it because Jennifer Aniston is in it. It had a bit of a story line. It was crude in may places. There were some laughs. Jason Bateman was funny and carried the script along. Other actors did their jobs. It was entertaining if you can look past some ofthe crudities. Yes, I was entertained.. See at your own risk. EXPEKT – O...

La La Land

on 12-19-2016

The life choices we make and how their consequences can play out, is the theme I walked away with. The singing and dancing is like seeing an old time “MUSICAL”. The acting is great by Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. It is a very entertaining and in ways spectacular movie with a simple story of love and stardom coupled with follow your dream binding it all together. I am glad I saw this one....

Rules Don’t Apply

on 12-02-2016

This is a movie about the egotistic style of Howard Hughes with a young attractive fresh faced actress in a love triangle with him as the front end story. It depicts Hughes as having an allergic reaction to “little Creatures”, AKA children. The acting is well done. Warren Beattys portrait of Hughes is a bit of a character of the actual man but none the less fun. I liked this movie a lot. It...

The Dressmaker

on 9-29-2016

This is a therapeutically funny movie. I laughed so hard and so many times that I came out feeling like a kid again. It has a biting storyline with Kate Winslet in the lead. Liam Hemsworth at her side, nice looking guy for you gals. It is wacky and full of surprises from beginning to end. Ms Winslet does some excellent acting and shows her range as an actress. Much of the humor is...

Bridget Jones’s Baby

on 9-17-2016

This is a delightful yet improbable love triangle story. It was fun at every turn. I laughed..a lot! :o) The acting is very well done and the laugh lines are quite bawdy, abundant and clever. One of Emma Tompsons’ lines:” Having a baby is having a whole human being pass through your vagina”….. Had not thought of it that way, up until now. All of the characters are fun to watch on screen and...

Florence Foster Jenkin

on 8-13-2016

The operative theme for this movie is: “People may say I can’t sing but they can not say I have not sung.” Hugh Grant and Meryl Streep light up the screen with a slow dance love song that takes twists and turns that end in 1944 Carnegie Hall. It is a true story about a wealthy, off key classical singer who wins them all over with her determination and stage presence. It is a...
